What do volunteers do at the Frist?
Volunteers support the Frist Center in a variety of roles by providing assistance to both our staff and visitors in diverse ways. Volunteer opportunities change from time to time. To see our current offerings, click here.

How old do you have to be to volunteer?
All volunteers must be at least 14 years of age.
Do you offer group volunteer opportunities?
At this time, we do not offer any one-time group volunteer opportunities.
Are there any special requirements?
All volunteers must pass a criminal background screening.
How do I apply to become a volunteer?
Persons interested in volunteering at the Frist Center may submit an application here.
Volunteers are selected based on availability, level of commitment, and the needs of the Frist Center. Persons selected for our program will be contacted prior to the next training session.
What is the volunteer commitment?
Volunteers are asked to provide four to six months of service during the summer of 2013.
How do I receive training?
Volunteer trainings are offered a few times each year based on the needs of the Frist Center. Training is generally conducted in one day, however, some volunteer positions may require additional training.
How does volunteer scheduling work?
We have a very easy to use online scheduling and communications system for maintaining your volunteer schedule. Before volunteer training, we create your schedule by using the information you provide on your application. Volunteers are usually scheduled for a weekly shift on the same day, or a bi-weekly shift on the same day. An example of this would be: the first, third, and fifth Wednesday afternoons from 1:30-5:30 p.m.
How long are the volunteer shifts?
Most volunteer shifts are four hours with one 15-minute break.

What do teen volunteers do at the Frist?
Teen volunteers are generally placed in the Martin ArtQuest Gallery, our interactive space. There is always a supervisor present in ArtQuest and teens work as part of a team instead of independently. However, we do sometimes place teen volunteers in other roles like the gift shop or audio tour distribution.
