Give Me Flame
Husband and wife duo Jace K. Seavers and Dorothy Gilmore-Seavers comprise the elegant jazz duo Meet the Seavers.
With music and lyrics cmoposed by Jace, the compositions are rooted in swing but rarely follow the traditional chord changes and rhythms familar to swing purists. Critics have called his thoughtful lyrics, complex time signatures and bubble-off-center chordings "ambitious," "insightful" and "brilliant."
The majority of Meet the Seavers's performances employe only upright bass and vocals, making them one of the most original and musically daring groups currently performing in Nashville.
The Scene's Jack Silverman said of Meet the Seavers:
"Husband-and-wife duo Jace Seavers and Dorothy Gilmore-Seavers have taken the stripped-down approach about as far as it can go: upright bass, a few finger snaps and a couple of human voices. With Dorothy’s sultry singing and Jace’s slinky bass lines and supporting vocals, the duo weave a sound somewhere between old-school swing and film-noir jazz. Add in their theatrical attire and stage antics, and Meet the Seavers performances become the closest thing Nashville has to a vintage vaudeville act."
Jace K. Seavers (upright bass and vocals) was born in 1961, at 11 minutes after 11:00, November 11. He is an award-winning lyricist and has played bass for more than 30 years. Dorothy Gilmore-Seavers (vocals) is the founder and CEO of Atlas 40+ models, an organization that serves to empower women over 40. She is also a cheerleader for the Nashville Roller Girls, known as Anita PBR!
