Join us for a night of intergenerational poetry and spoken word in the Frist Center Café in conjunction with Southern Word. Through the literary and performing arts, Southern Word offers creative solutions for youth to build literacy and presentation skills, reconnect to their education and to their lives and act as leaders in the improvement of their communities.
The evening will feature performances by top Nashville poets Julia Nance and Rashad "thaPoet" Rayford. Julia has toured extensively, published three chapbooks, and placed 20th in the National Poetry Slam. Rashad has regularly been recognized as one of Nashville's top spoken word artists, having sold over 19,000 albums independently. Julia and Rashad will be joined by the Nashville teen slam team. The team is freshly back from the national slam festival in California, and they will feature some of the powerful pieces they developed for the event. These poets have been receiving standing ovations all over Nashville.
