Poetry at the Frist: Southern Word Mid-South Grand Slam Semifinal

Frist Center Cafe; FREE

The region's top youth poets, emcees and spoken word artists compete for top lyrical honors, a chance to appear on the statewide finals stage at TSU on April 13th, and a shot to travel to the Brave New Voices Festival slated for Chicago this summer. Semifinal events are held in Williamson County, Rutherford County, Shelby County, and East Tennessee, too.

Southern Word creates platforms for youth to speak about the real hopes and challenges of their lives. Discretion is advised for this event as some material may be unsuitable for young children.

For information about Southern Word, visit southernword.org.

The event is presented by Southern Word in partnership with the Frist Center for the Visual Arts and made possible through the generous support of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, Metro Nashville Arts Commission, and the Tennessee Arts Commission.
