Since 2000, the Frist Center has partnered with local organizations to provide art educational programs to Nashville-area communities. This partnership begins by offering the Art Trunk Program to groups of all ages throughout Davidson County and features collaborations with trusted community institutions serving pre-school and after-school youth, English as a second language and adult basic education learners, families, and senior citizen groups.

Art Trunks are mobile educational kits designed to enrich the appreciation and understanding of present and past art exhibitions at the Frist Center. The Art Trunk Program provides unique opportunities for participants to become more informed about works of art, their meanings, and the artists who created them. Each trunk has a theme and includes reproductions of artwork from specific exhibitions and guided lesson plans for three activity sessions.

Current art trunks are available only to our community partners located within Davidson County. The Art Trunk Program also provides art trunk training for the staff of our community partners, training for Frist Center intern artists and volunteers, and a transportation subsidy.

Art Trunks typically include current exhibition-themed books, teaching lesson plans, an exhibition catalog, 11 × 17 in. images of selected art works, and various art-making materials (such as pencils, paper, paints, brushes, etc.)

ART TRUNK ARCHIVES
Art trunks designed in conjunction with past Frist Center exhibitions are available for use by any group or individual. The portfolios include color reproductions of artwork from specific exhibitions, related books and materials about the exhibition, and guided lesson plans for three activity sessions.

For more information about our archived art trunks, contact our outreach educators by email or phone: 615.744.3323.
