What is the Avant-Garde?
The Avant-Garde is a group of vibrant Frist Center members who focus on the mission of ensuring that the Frist Center remains the premier community visual arts center in Nashville.
This group engages members in social and educational events throughout the year, such as:

Avant-Garde members develop an insider’s appreciation for the variety of exhibitions the Frist Center offers, enjoy invitations to social and educational events, and have the unique opportunity to mix and mingle with other members who share a passion for the visual arts and are committed to supporting the Frist Center.
AVANT-GARDE MEMBERSHIP DUES and BENEFITS
Avant-Garde membership can be added to any level of membership. All Frist Center members may join the Avant-Garde by adding a $50 program fee to their membership renewal.
Opening the Avant-Garde to all members creates a wider audience, builds Avant-Garde membership, and provides more opportunities for social interaction and networking.

Michael Lasser
Michael Lasser is a lecturer, writer, broadcaster, critic, and teacher. He and Philip Furia are co-authors of the recent book, America’s Songs: The Stories Behind the Songs of Broadway, Hollywood and Tin Pan Alley. Since 1980, he has been the host of the nationally syndicated public radio show, Fascination’ Rhythm, winner of a 1994 Peabody Award. A graduate of Dartmouth College, he is the former theater critic for The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, and for 30 years, has spoken at museums and universities around the country. In 2010, he was named a Thomas P. Johnson Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Rollins College. He is currently preparing a 2-CD set of the early songs of Irving Berlin and is working on a new book, The Song Is Us: Love, Lyrics & American Life, 1900-1950.
