Internship Information

As part of the Frist Center’s experiential learning program, internships introduce college students to the many career pathways offered within a non-collecting nonprofit arts center. Internships are offered during the school year, coinciding with the fall and spring semesters and summer break. The internship program is ideal for students participating in independent studies or courses that require internships or practicum credits. Students may arrange academic credit through their colleges and universities.

Internship projects are based on the applicant’s academic requirements, skills and interests, and the needs of the Frist Center. Students receive guidance by the Frist Center staff and educators, as well as the cooperating educator from their college or university.

The following departments/areas within the Frist Center offer internships:
• Communications
• Curatorial
• Design
• Development
• Education

Preference given to juniors, seniors, graduate students, and international students; in exceptional cases sophomores or freshmen will be considered with faculty recommendations. Majors in art history, arts management, business, communications, education, English, graphic design, marketing, museum studies, studio art, and/or related areas of study are desired.

Hours vary and are flexible, but a minimum of 8 hours per week is generally expected to be completed during Frist Center hours:

10:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Saturday
10:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. Thursday & Friday
